THE IDEATION & BIRTH OF STORM
Storm festival was an idea which popped up more than a decade ago. It was the days before the millennium and the buzzword then was “War of the DJ s”. It was Sachin Bopanna (Director of Liquid Space Entertainment) who spotted the irony in this; DJ s don't have wars, they make music. So Sachin, came up with the concept of “United DJ‘s” a platform where various DJ s specializing in various genres of music would come together and spin their magic on one platform. Sachin discussed this concept of ‘musical oneness’ with his elder brother Lavin Uthappa (MD, Liquid Space Entertainment), who is fondly called ‘Annaiah’. Lavin found the concept worth exploring and a few brainstorming sessions later, STORM (originally a concept about united DJs) was conceptualised as a multi-genre, multi-stage festival of oneness with music and nature.
However, it took them 10 long years to make this germ of an idea a reality. In fact, a lot of ideas that was visualised for Storm took some shape through a lot of events Sachin and Lavin produced, under the Liquid Space banner, as well as others. But, the core of the Storm Festival was intact and untouched ─ a full scale camp-out music festival in the middle of unspoilt natural beauty. The concept of course has been a fairly unexplored territory, till the Storm festival debuted in 2012. Somebody had to tread the way, and the 2 brothers backed by their able team and a brother from another mother (Vincent Samuel), took up the responsibility of kicking up this STORM.
There are many points that make the Storm festival unique. The meticulous concern towards preserving the environment happens to be just one of them. Storm is a realisation of many of their passions, particularly for nature and music. The festival celebrates togetherness, camaraderie and a religion called Music. That is why it is designed to be a camp-out music festival, so that the camaraderie lingers long after the entertainment dazzlers go off stage... It is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, an escapade to unwind the souls which are bound by the stress of everyday life.
The festival sure salutes the values of freedom but it strictly and firmly adheres to a “No Drugs” policy. Storm festival is neither a Rave and nor is a freak show. Storm festival stands for one thing, that is “Responsible enjoyment.” Anyone attending the Storm festival is requested to reciprocate the same love and care that the nature bestows on us.
